Collins Edwin Sports Club on Wednesday 7th August at Lekan Salami Stadium Ibadan, defeated IJEBU United Football Club 4-3 on penalties to gain a priceless promotion into the Nigeria National League(NNL), the second tier of Nigerian Football Structure. Knowing that it’s a make or break contest, the gladiators went on the front foot from the blast of the whistle, dominating the entire first half, missing guilt-edge chances in the process. The dominance paid off in the 36th minute when a wonderful solo effort from mesmerizing winger Martins Orji gave us a one goal lead. The first half ended with the gladiators in front. The game which was streamed live globally had the Ijebu Boys start the second half stronger with the gladiators containing the game with strategic tackles, passes and clearances. In the 86th minute, the Ijebu Boys equalized through a rebound after the Gladiators goalkeeper had parried a shot on goal. The 1-1 full time score took the game into penalty shootouts. Gladiators goalkeeper Okeke Peter Ifeanyi was the hero as he made a fantastic penalty save to put the faith in our hands. With all our penalty takers converting theirs, the Ijebu United woes worsened with another of their taker hitting the woodwork, having preferred force over precision. The Gladiators emerged victorious, finishing the shootouts 4-3.
We appreciate all our fans and supporters who traveled all the way to see the dream come true. The management had yesterday announced a deserved one week break for the lads, to reconvene on the 19th of August to commence preparations for the Nigeria NationWide League One Super 8.

We Are The Gladiators!!!
